Program Details

UtmostU works alongside affiliate organizations to prepare and support recent high school graduates to navigate and succeed in their post-secondary plans.  With the Fellow at the center of the work we do, UtmostU emphasizes consistent engagement, which builds relationships and trust in our support.  We offer 360 degrees of wrap-around services that concludes when the Fellow is launched into a career.


Through personal coaches, mentors, regular communication, and observation, the UtmostU program assures Fellows are listened to and guided forward.


By observing and collecting the right pieces of information, we aim to turn data into action.  Partners work together as a learning community to review data points and build resources and structures to support Fellows.


With data and tools in-hand, coaches and mentors work alongside Fellows to create a solution-oriented mindset that encourages confidence and independence.

Our system of support address three key areas

Training & Professional Development

Pathway Coach Training

  • Assist new and veteran alumni support staff on the best practices in supporting young adults
  • Provide an established contact cycle to guide career and college pathway young adults
  • Offer ongoing professional development for busy coordinators that focuses on action

Student Engagement

  • Provide a guided onboarding into the UtmostU program
  • Offer summer readiness modules
  • Interactive nudge texts to encourage positive actions
  • Offer monthly leadership and career-readiness seminars

Monthly Network Meetings

  • Monthly virtual meetings to create a learning community of peers and guide the Fellow support cycle
  • Review network-wide and partner data to define best practices

Support of Peer Mentor Program

  • Access to an on-campus Peer Mentor Counseling program as part of a near-peer support system

Young Adult Mental Health Training

  • Professional development to address risk factors of mental health issues in young adults

Technology Platform

UtmostU Success Database

  • A customized database built on the Salesforce platform to track and support Fellows
  • Retain important student documents, including transcripts, financial information, contact log, SMS texts, career mapping results, Success Surveys, college and career tracking

UtmostU Success Community Portal

  • A dedicated web-based portal for Fellows to complete the social-emotional Success Surveys, contact their Alumni Coordinator, upload critical documents, and join Fellow forums around specific topics

UtmostU Social Media Network

  • Access to the UtmostU’s social networks such as Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and other social media platforms for peer support

Management of free national cellular data plan

  • Fellows are offered a free cellular data plan to access the UtmostU Success Portal and communicate with their Alumni Coordinator

Dynamic SMS text platform

  • A system of automated and interactive texts to prompt Fellows to take positive actions

Network Support

Data Analysis

  • Monthly reports that monitor the status of Fellows, evaluating metrics that assess on-track behaviors
  • Based on a collaboration with UtmostU’s university research partner, UtmostU provides research-based guidance and risk assessment tools

Management of Social-Emotional Surveys (Success Survey)

  • UtmostU administers the Success Survey eight times a year
  • Assess Fellows on both college and career paths

Emergency persistence funds

  • Fellows may have access to up to $2,000 in emergency assistance
  • Certified partner of All Chicago, which allows Fellows attending Illinois colleges and universities to access additional funds

Career Advising through PathwayU

  • Access to PathwayU, an online tool for career counseling to match academics with long-term goals

Fellows  E-newsletter

  • A bi-monthly e-newsletter produced for Fellows that includes college and career tips, reminders, and scholarship, internship, and career opportunities
